🏠 1. Always Pay to a Corporate or Company Account when booking an apartment

The safest way to book a shortlet is by paying into a registered corporate or company account. Verified company accounts are traceable and backed by official documentation, giving you recourse if anything goes wrong.

Why it matters:

  • Protects you from fake listings

  • Makes refunds and disputes easier to resolve

  • Ensures the apartment actually exists and is managed professionally

⚠️ 2. Avoid Paying Individuals Claiming to Be Managers

Never transfer money to a personal account under the guise of being a manager, housekeeper, or unauthorized agent—unless you have verified proof of legitimacy. Scammers often impersonate staff to trick unsuspecting guests.

    Red flags to watch for:

    • Pressure to pay immediately without a contract

    • Refusal to provide company registration or official receipts

🔍 3. Verify the Shortlet Apartment Listing

      Before making any payment:

      • Confirm the property address and check it on Google Maps

      • Read reviews from previous guests (Airbnb, local forums, or BEP Apartments reviews)

      • Ask for the time the photos of the actual apartment, was taken.

        ✅ 4. Use Trusted Platforms

Booking through reputable shortlet platforms or verified agencies adds an extra layer of protection. In Abuja, many reliable platforms ensure:

        • Payments go to secure company accounts

        • Listings are verified

        • Dispute resolution mechanisms are available

💡 5. Insist on a Receipt and Contract

A professional shortlet booking should always include:

          • A formal invoice or receipt

          • Clear terms and conditions

          • Policies for cancellations, check-in, and refunds

Avoid any arrangement that only provides verbal confirmation.

            ⚡ 6. Trust Your Instincts

If something feels off—like an unusually low price or urgent payment demand—pause and verify. Scammers rely on haste and pressure to trick you. Take your time to confirm everything.

            🏢 Final Thoughts

Booking a shortlet apartment in Abuja doesn’t have to be stressful. By following these simple rules—paying to company accounts, avoiding unverified individuals, checking listings, and insisting on receipts—you can enjoy your stay with peace of mind.

Remember, it’s better to double-check and secure your booking than to risk losing your money to a scam.
